Simple Pleasures
Hello and hello, everyone. The world continues to spin even though we’re on the other side of it. We’ve settled down a little more since our big adventures on Fuji and across Honshu, taking on some private classes and making real human friends. On Monday we teach private kid’s classes, and next week I will get to play Santa for their Christmas party. Incidentally, you can see pictures of the Halloween party on our Flickr account. We work and play, and you might see us back in America sometime in February. Details are still scarce - email me if you need to know so badly.
The following little scene is really, really gooey and romantic. I’m serious about this. It’s all about how much I love Holly, which is my favorite subject to write about and it’s my web site so deal with it. If you have a weak stomach for gooey, romantic things then I suggest you do not click the following link. Consider yourself duly warned.
He rolled onto his side, and she said -
“You still love me, right?”
And for a moment he said nothing, just laid there in silence. Then he rolled onto his back.
“Will you lay on me?” he asked. She was a little frustrated that he hadn’t answered, but he did this sometimes, seemingly ignoring her questions.
“I just need you to lay on me while I explain something,” he said, holding out his arm for her. She rolled into him, letting his arm slide under her, her head resting on his shoulder.
“OK,” she said, and shifted so that their bodies curved together. He ran his fingers through her hair as he spoke.
“What’s a simple pleasure that everyone enjoys?” he asked. She thought for a moment.
“The smell of coffee?” she said.
“Mmm, that’s a good one,” he said. “Anything else?”
“Umm,” she said, considering. “Clean sheets.”
“Hot from the dryer?” he asked, letting his fingers trail down to that comfortable place at the base of her neck.
“Yeah,” she said. They were silent then, just darkness, breathing, and his fingers.
“What about butter on hot toast?” he asked.
“Yeah. Or walking on crunchy leaves on the sidewalk in Fall.”
“That’s a good one.”
“Or scissors and construction paper,” she said, and twitched a little when his hand slid to the space between her shoulder and neck. He didn’t say anything after that. Working a knot in her shoulder, he held her a little closer and then spoke.
“In case you were wondering, that’s how much I love you.”
So they slept for another night, and they woke side by side.
