Scavhunt

Day two of P-Drive 2K8 featured the V89 Scavenger Hunt! I’m proud of how this one turned out. Here’s the dilemma we had while planning this event: being a Pledge Drive event, we wanted to make money. However, we also didn’t want to discourage teams from signing up if they had to pay to play. Not only that, but if we charged admission we would also need to provide a decent prize, therefore negating any profit we could have made from sign-up fees. Whatever were we to do?

Here’s what we did: instead of charging the participants, we solicited local businesses. For every business willing to donate $200 or more to the cause, we would place a DJ at their location which the Scav Hunters would have to find for a large point value. Businesses would get new traffic, we would get their donations, and the Hunters would get POINTS - everyone wins.

We had ten teams participate, which I feel was a pretty good turnout. The winning team wasn’t even from V89! I’ll paste the Scav List below the cut - the point values are wrong, but I don’t feel like changing them at this point.

P-Drive

For those of you who didn’t know: my radio station, WVFS Tallahassee, had its 5th Quadrennial Pledge Drive from February 29th to March 7th. At the beginning of the semester I asked if I could be the project manager for the Drive, and it’s been a literally insane two months since then. Planning this Pledge Drive has been one of the hardest, most time-intensive projects I’ve ever taken on. Don’t get me wrong - I wasn’t alone in it. This was a true group effort, and a lot of really amazing people stepped up to help. Either way, it was a huge undertaking, and I feel comfortable calling it a success. We raised $16,500 in pledges over a week’s time, introduced an unsuspecting campus to surprise robot dance parties, had a bunch of awesome events, and are still alive to tell the tale.

So, seeing as the Pledge Drive sucked up every single spare moment of the last two months, I’ve got some catching up to do on the site. I figure I’ll start with a showcase of all the stuff we did for P-Drive 2K8. First things first: our kick-off event was the 3rd Annual 25-Hour DJ-A-Thon. It started at 9:00 am on Friday, February 29th, and ended at 10:00 am on Saturday, March 1st. Brave DJs Manley and Chantelle battled the forces of fatigue to prove, once and for all, whether boys or girls are better DJs. I made challenges for them to complete throughout the DJ-A-Thon, and whoever had the most points at the end would finally determine which sex was superior. I’m proud of both my teams, but it looks like the Boys took it in the end with a stunning magazine collage representation of “The V89 Experience.” Here are the challenges I gave them - feel free to try them out for yourself, where applicable! Keep in mind, since this was a Battle of the Sexes, some of the questions are skewed in favor of one gender or the other.
